The University of South Alabama Health has named Gregory Bouska, MD, as interim chair of the Department of Anesthesiology at the Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine.
USA Health is planning an anesthesia residency training program, and the new anesthesiology department will provide new educational and research opportunities, according to an Oct. 21 news release from the university.
Dr. Bouska has served as chief of anesthesia services at the academic health system since November 2022. Prior to joining USA Health, he served as chair of the Department of Anesthesiology at Huntsville (Ala.) Hospital.
“This provides the necessary home for a new residency training program in anesthesia, which not only has direct benefits to recruitment of academic faculty and retention of our own trainees, but also there are benefits to other surgical programs that allow further development and growth both clinically and educationally,” Jeffrey La Rochelle, MD, dean of the Whiddon College of Medicine, said in the release.
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
