1. Cynthia Herald, MD, and the university reached the settlement in November 2017, but case details weren’t made public until recently.
2. Dr. Herald sought $4 million in lost wages as well as compensation for damages.
3. Dr. Herald was an anesthesiology resident at the university. She alleged a fellow resident raped her in 2009. After reporting it to superiors, she allegedly faced increased scrutiny and criticism. The university fired Dr. Herald for alleged poor performance and drug use.
4. The university never interviewed the alleged rapist, nor was he criminally charged.
5. Dr. Herald could sue the university again under a breach of contract claim, according to her attorney, but she did not elaborate on the matter to the Journal.
