Somnia Anesthesia names 6th annual Anesthesiologist of the Year — 4 insights

Somnia Anesthesia announced the winners of its sixth annual Anesthesiologist of the Year award and its first annual Anesthesia Resident of the Year award.

Here's what you should know.

1. The sixth annual Anesthesiologist of the Year is Jasper Mesarch, MD, of El Paso, Texas-based University Medical Center.

2. Dr. Mesarch was nominated because of his "outstanding clinical and administrative leadership skills and for his intelligence, enthusiasm and support he brings to his colleagues and patients every day."

3. The first annual Anesthesia Resident of the Year is Matt Betz, MD, a resident at Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins University.

4. Dr. Petz's peers recognized his "passion, sincerity and humility" and the fact he gives 110 percent of himself daily. One nomination noted medical students frequently said, "they would want him to provide anesthesia for their loved ones."
