According to Mr. Mira, while systems such as the SEDASYS-Computer-Assisted Personalized Sedation System provide a useful amount of automation, it cannot fully replace the anesthesiologist or other clinicians trained to manage loss of consciousness. Also, while information systems can collect useful data, the data does not have meaning until the relationships between them are understood, which an anesthesiologist is trained to do.
Ultimately, it will not be possible to replace an anesthesiologist’s understanding and wisdom with computers, according to the blog post.
