Following an investigation into unsafe conditions at a Pennsylvania abortion clinic, the Senate voted 21-0 to allow state regulators to investigate allegations of unsafe conditions at medical facilities that perform invasive procedures requiring anesthesia.
The House has already approved the bill, which received minor amendments concerning the use of anesthesia before Senate approval. The amendments clarified that facilities will be subject to inspection if they perform procedures that should use anesthesia, regardless of whether anesthesia was actually used.
Rep. Bryon Short (D-Highland Woods), who sponsored the bill in the House, is expected to seek a final House vote by Thursday. According to the report, Gov. Jack Markell intends to sign the amended bill.
