Prominent anesthesiologist missing after plane disappears over Gulf of Mexico — 7 notes

A plane piloted by prominent Oklahoma City-based anesthesiologist John William Kinsinger, MD, has gone missing over the Gulf of Mexico, NewsOk reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. Dr. Kinsinger departed Oklahoma City-based Wiley Post Airport the evening of Jan. 3. Authorities tracked the plane over the Gulf of Mexico, but Dr. Kinsinger was not responding to radio communication.

2. The Coast Guard believes Dr. Kinsinger possibly lost consciousness due to the lack of oxygen at the high altitude.

3. Aircrafts from North American Aerospace Defense Command were quickly dispatched after the FAA was unable to establish contact with Dr. Kinsinger. Two fighters observed Dr. Kinsinger slouched over and possibly unconscious.

4. The North American Aerospace Defense Command coordinated an effort to track his plane with the FAA and Mexican authorities until visibility was lost.

5. Dr. Kinsinger was attempting to fly from Oklahoma City to an airport in Georgetown, Texas. The U.S. Coast Guard is searching off the coast 135 miles north of the Yucatan Peninsula in an attempt to find Dr. Kinsinger's plane.

6. Dr. Kinsinger is an obstetric anesthesiologist who helped deliver around 20,000 infants. He is employed by Northwest Anesthesia PC and is the medical director of obstetric anesthesia at Integris Baptist Medical Center, both based in Oklahoma City.

7. He serves on the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision and is a past president of the Oklahoma Society of Anesthesiologists.
