Illinois anesthesiologist charged with sexual abuse — 3 insights

Rock Island County State's Attorney John McGee brought two counts of criminal sex abuse against anesthesiologist Venkateswara Rao Karuparthy, MD, Dispatch-Argus reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. Dr. Karuparthy allegedly fondled a patient. No further details were reported.

2. Dr. Karuparthy formerly practiced at Integrative Pain Center of America in Rock Island, Ill. The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation suspended his license Nov. 7 because of the allegations. Dr. Karuparthy resides in Bettendorf, Iowa, where he does not have an active medical license.

3. Dr. Karuparthy faces up to six years in prison, if convicted. He will appear in a Rock Island Circuit Court at a later date.
