A bill in the Kansas legislature would create a licensing and regulation system for anesthesiologist assistants, according to a Feb. 11 report from KOAM.
Anesthesiologist assistants differ from certified registered nurse anesthetists. Assistants require direct supervision from an anesthesiologist, while CRNAs can provide care independently.
House Bill 2368 creates the system under the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts.
Leaders of rural healthcare providers have raised concerns that the bill could disrupt the anesthesia provider pipeline in the state.
The bill was introduced in 2025 and most recently referred to the Committee on Health and Human Services.
