How Somnia Anesthesia Recruits Anesthesiologists and Nurse Anesthetists

Daniele Mariconi, recruitment team leader at Somnia Anesthesia Services, explains how the company recruits anesthesiologists and nurse to service healthcare facilities, including hospitals, ASCs and physicians offices. The company currently has about 200 anesthesiology clinicians working with clients in 15 states.

Good recruiting requires many sources. Successful recruiting involves more than just surveying message boards on the Internet. We take a proactive approach, such as asking practicing physicians for recommendations, posting ads, making cold calls and even meeting with residents and CRNA trainees on site and “planting the seed” for service with us when they graduate.

Choice of site varies widely. While it is generally harder to place clinicians in venues with low-volume or long work hours, there are many case-specific factors, such as family needs, availability of schools, religious affiliation and the opportunity to work in a certain kind of practice.

Skill sets differ according to the site.
For example, a hospital might require extra fellowship training for services such as cardiac surgery while an ASC is more likely to cover more routine cases.

Clinical evaluation of the candidate is important.
Before we place a candidate, we conduct a rigorous clinical evaluation. Our clinical vice president talks with the candidates and the company conducts a background check.
