Former college lineman pursues anesthesiology career — 3 highlights

Former University of Maine offensive lineman Justin Roberts, MD, now works as an anesthesiologist at Rutgers University's Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, N.J., according to Bangor Daily News.

What you should know:

1. Dr. Roberts was a starting offensive guard at Orono-based UMaine and graduated from the university with a business degree in 2007.

2. Dr. Roberts later became a pharmaceutical sales representative, working alongside many physician graduates from St. George's University School of Medicine in St. George, Grenada.

3. Dr. Roberts applied and was accepted to St. George's University School of Medicine. While there, he served as Physicians for Human Rights' president.

4. Upon returning to the U.S., he completed a rotation in anesthesiology and discovered that was his passion.

5. Dr. Roberts is now completing his anesthesiology residency at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and applying for an adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellowship.
