Federal office awards $600K grant to cut down on opioids — 3 notes

Two hospitals were awarded a $600,000 grant to establish Integrative Pain Centers in Maryland and West Virginia, according to The Garrett County Republican

Three notes:

1. Oakland, Md.-based Garrett Regional Medical Center and Keyser, W.Va.-based Potomac Valley Hospital applied for the grant in partnership with Morgantown-based West Virginia University Medicine to dramatically limit opioid use and availability in the region. WVUM is a clinical affiliate of Garrett Regional and the owner of Potomac Valley.

2. The Health Resources and Services Administration's Federal Office of Rural Health Policy awarded the grant in July to provide alternative treatment options for chronic pain patients.

3. One Integrative Pain Center will be in Oakland and the other will be in Keyser, both expected to open later this year. They will accept patients referred by local physicians, providing treatments such as nerve blocks, spinal cord stimulation and radio frequency ablations.
