Exercise, isolation & sleep: How anesthesiologists cope with burnout — 12 statistics

Forty-two percent of anesthesiologists report being burned out, according to Medscape's Anesthesiologist Lifestyle, Happiness & Burnout Report 2019.

Medscape surveyed 15,069 physicians across 29-plus specialties.

How respondents cope with burnout:

1. Exercise: 50 percent
2. Isolate myself from others: 42 percent
3. Sleep: 41 percent
4. Eat junk food: 37 percent
5. Talk with family members/close friends: 34 percent
6. Play or listen to music: 30 percent
7. Drink alcohol: 25 percent
8. Binge eat: 24 percent
9. Other: 19 percent
10. Smoke cigarettes/use nicotine products: 4 percent
11. Use prescription drugs: 2 percent
12. Smoke or consume marijuana: 0 percent
