Envision anesthesiology division affected by data breach

Bay Area Anesthesia, a division of Envision Physician Services, was recently affected by a data breach involving Bowden Barlow’s computer systems.

Bay Area Anesthesia is a provider of anesthesia services to BayCare Surgery Center in Trinity, Fla. Bowden Barlow is a former third-party legal services provider of Bay Area Anesthesia.

The anesthesia group was recently notified that an unknown actor gained unauthorized access to a Bowden Barlow computer server between Nov. 17 and Dec. 1. During that time, the unknown actor accessed and downloaded certain documents, which may have contained the personal information of certain Bay Area Anesthesia patients.

According to a notice on Envision’s website, Bay Area Anesthesia began mailing notification letters Feb. 26 to patients whose information was involved in the incident. The organization is also offering complimentary identity theft protection services. 

The data breach affected more than 15,000 individuals, according to a Feb. 26 submission to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights Breach Portal.
