Dr. Timothy Koritz elected to U of I Board of Trustees as chairman — 4 things to know

The University of Illinois Board of Trustees elected anesthesiologist Timothy Koritz, MD, to a one-year term as chairman.

Here are four things you need to know:

1. Dr. Koritz has served on the University of Illinois Board of Trustees since 2009. He was elected chairman during the board's annual meeting at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

2. Dr. Koritz is a staff anesthesiologist at Rockford Memorial Hospital and a former clinical assistant professor at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford. He received his medical degree from Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass.

3. He succeeds Edward McMillan, who will remain on the board after serving for the last two years as chairman. The board governs the U of I System and its universities in Urbana-Champaign, Chicago and Springfield, which have more than 81,000 students, 24,000 faculty and staff members and a $5.6 billion annual budget.

4. Dr. Koritz is a veteran. He served as a major and flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force, and was officer in charge for the space shuttle emergency medical response team from 1988 to 1991.
