UF College of Medicine currently has 315 residents and fellows training in Jacksonville, and the new residency aims to fill the high demand for anesthesiologist due to the wide variety of surgical specialties offered to the community, said Constance Haan, MD, director of the graduate medical education programs.
The university recently launched a clinical obstetric anesthesiology fellowship program, now starting its fourth year, and approved a four-year psychiatry program to begin in 2013. “This provides training in two specialties that are in short supply and will be beneficial to UF and the community,” said Daniel Wilson, MD, PhD, vice president for health affairs.
