Dr. James Cottrell wins Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health’s leadership award: 5 notes

The Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health named James E. Cottrell, MD, a winner of its Leadership Award, according to a Look to the Stars report.

Here are five notes:

1. Dr. Cottrell is a distinguished service professor and regional chair of the department of anesthesiology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in New York City.

2. He has served as president of the American Society of Anesthesiologists and of the Society of Neurosurgical Anesthesia and Critical Care.

3. He is currently editor-in-chief of the Journal of Neurosurgical Anesthesiology.

4. He has served as chairman of the AIDS Action Foundation as well as vice chairman of the Board of Doctors of the World.  

5. The Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health collaborates with community members to design interventions in neighborhoods addressing health conditions.
