Daniel Bennett, MD, first realized the potential of pain education when medical device company Advanced Bionics launched an awareness campaign focused on Mike Roman of St. Louis, whose leg was amputated when it became infected following knee surgery.
“Here was a big company, Advanced Bionics, that was trying to do something to educate people about chronic pain, a malady that affects over 100 million people,” said Daniel Bennett, MD, who specializes in anesthesiology and pain medicine. “No one had ever done anything like this before.”
Dr. Bennett is calling for more patients like Mr. Roman to share stories “that will inspire their fellow patients and the healthcare professionals who treat them.”
