A one-day strike involving hundreds of healthcare workers across multiple Kaiser Permanente facilities in Northern California took place Sept. 8.
The strike involved more than 600 certified registered nurse anesthetists and nurse midwives across more than 20 hospitals. Their strike surrounded negotiations over issues including “unsafe staffing, burnout and the risk to patient care,” according to a Sept. 8 news release from United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professionals.
Approximately 1,300 healthcare professionals at Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente’s Northern California facilities represented by the union participated in the strike. This included UNAC physician assistants, acupuncturists and Local 39 engineers, who issued sympathy strike notices to the health system, a Kaiser Permanente spokesperson told Becker’s.
