Comprehensive Pain Specialists closing majority of practices following CEO fraud indictment — 5 insights

Middle, Tenn.-based Comprehensive Pain Management is in the midst of closing multiple locations throughout 12 states after its former CEO was indicted for Medicare fraud, the Tennessean reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. Comprehensive Pain Management also operates as Anesthesia Service Associates. Of the companies 40 clinics, only 13 didn't elaborate on their current status, referring the Tennessean to the corporation's public relations office.

2. All 21 of the company's Tennessee clinics said they'd be shutting down.

3. CEO John Davis led Comprehensive Pain Management since 2011. He was indicted for Medicare fraud in April. He allegedly received $770,000 in bribes from CCC Medical to refer patients to CCC clinics.

4. Mr. Davis allegedly attempted to hide a portion of the bribes by selling a sham business with no assets to CCC Medical.

5. Comprehensive Pain Specialists was founded in 2005 by four physicians, including current CEO Peter Kroll, MD, and state Sen. Steve Dickerson, MD, R-Nashville, Tenn.
