Three individuals who pleaded guilty to involvement in a pill mill scheme are scheduled for sentencing Dec. 20, The Brunswick News reports.
Here's what you should know:
1. Silverly Ann May, David Muyres and Mark Alan Ciopryna pleaded guilty to participating in a conspiracy through Coastline Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in St. Marys, Ga., over three years.
2. Mr. Muyres allegedly hired employees and instructed them to accept payments of $200 to $300 for alprazolam, hydrocodone, hydromorphone and oxycodone prescriptions, which were later filled by co-conspirators' pharmacies.
3. More than $1.27 million from CPMR was deposited into a bank account in 2016, according to a document filed in December 2017. The money was allegedly used to pay salaries, operating expenses and other activities to conceal illegal activity.
4. Authorities seized more than $200,000 in cash and account funds from Mr. Muyres, as well as three pieces of jewelry and 249 assorted gold and platinum bars and coins. Mr. Ciopryna agreed to forfeit nearly $75,000 as part of his plea deal.
Authorities also seized thousands of dollars from bank accounts linked to businesses allegedly involved in the conspiracy.
5. Ms. May faces up to five years in prison and three years of supervised release. Her lawyer is asking for a substantial sentence reduction based on a report regarding Ms. May's psychological condition.
Mr. Muyres and Mr. Ciopryna also face up to five years in prison.
