Robert Fragen, MD, an anesthesiologist and professor at Northwestern University in Chicago, has died at age 90, according to a July 29 obituary published by the Chicago Sun-Times.
Dr. Fragen received his undergraduate, medical school and residency training at Indiana University in Bloomington. After his residency, Dr. Fragen served as head of the anesthesia department at the Naval Hospital in Beaufort, S.C., for two years.
In 1964, Dr. Fragen moved to Chicago and served as head of the anesthesia department at Ravenswood Hospital until 1974, when he joined the faculty at Northwestern University. He later went on to lead the anesthesia department at Northwestern, retiring as a full professor in 2012. During his tenure, he authored more than 60 publications related to his research, including two academic books.
