Springfield, Mass.-based Baystate Health has named Jesse Saliga, MD, chief of anesthesia at the future Baystate Mercy Hospital, according to a news release shared with Becker’s Oct. 28.

The appointment comes ahead of Mercy Medical Center’s planned transition to Baystate Health on Nov. 1. Dr. Saliga already serves as chief of anesthesia at Mercy Medical Center. There, he oversees a mixed anesthesia care model and supervises certified registered nurse anesthetists, student registered nurse anesthetists, residents and medical students. He also practices solo anesthesia in general surgery, orthopedics, neurosurgery, thoracic and vascular surgery, and pediatric dental cases.

Dr. Saliga is a board-certified anesthesiologist who specializes in ultrasound-guided procedures and operating room workflow management. He has been recognized for his work as lead floor manager and for improving perioperative workflows and systems.

The appointment brings Dr. Saliga back to the system where he trained. He completed his anesthesiology residency at Baystate Medical Center after earning his medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine.

“This is an exciting full-circle moment for me,” Dr. Saliga said in a news release. “My roots as an anesthesiologist were shaped by the wonderful, talented physicians who trained me at Baystate, and I am thrilled to rejoin the group after ten years.”

Andrew Ritz, president and COO of the future Baystate Mercy Hospital, pointed to Dr. Saliga’s commitment to patient care, education and operational excellence.

Baystate Health is a nonprofit integrated system with hospitals, physician practices and a health plan. It serves more than 800,000 people across western New England and is the safety-net provider for Western Massachusetts.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
