ASA, Society for Pediatric Anesthesia send FDA letter on anesthetics use for children

The American Society of Anesthesiologists and the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia sent a formal letter to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Science Board regarding the use of anesthetics and sedation drugs among children, according to an ASA alert.

In the letter, the societies noted existing research on the use of anesthetics and sedation drugs in the pediatric population. Additionally, they offered key points about current evidence and identified major knowledge gaps, including the fact that there are only three ongoing studies with designs sufficiently robust to add significantly to the understanding of this issue.
