ASA Releases Accountable Care Organization FAQs

The American Society of Anesthesiologists has released a set of frequently asked questions about accountable care organizations, developed by the society’s ACO Task Force, according to a news release.

The questions include general queries about ACOs, including:

• What is the Medicare definition of an ACO?
• Which entities are eligible to form an ACO?
• Will ACOs be automatically accepted into the Shared Savings Program?

The questions also include queries specifically targeted to anesthesia providers, such as:

• Should an anesthesiologist participate in a Medicare ACO in their community?
