Anesthesia Business Consultants President and CEO Tony Mira penned an eAlert in which he discussed whether participating anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists should use a qualified clinical data registry or a qualified registry for Merit-Based Incentive Payment Systems.
Here's what you should know.
1. Qualified Registries and Qualified Clinical Data Registries have subtle but important differences.
2. Mr. Mira said the most important reporting tool is one that will support MIPS participation in 2017 and in subsequent years as reporting requirements and performance expectations expand.
3. Mr. Mira and ABC both back qualified clinical data registries over qualified registries in terms of reporting.
Although a QR supports MIPS measures, a majority of the measures are not relevant to anesthesiologists.
Mr. Mira said, "Although a QR might appear to be an effective alternative at first glance, in reality, it provides, at best, a limited, temporary benefit to most anesthesiologists and CRNAs."
4. In contract, a QCDR supports both MIPS and non-MIPS measures. The non-MIPS measures fulfill MIPS requirements and more accurately reflect how anesthesiologists and CRNAs practice.
