Here are the top 12 “action items” salaried anesthesiologists would like to improve in their practice environment, based on whether the anesthesiologists are salaried employees or owners/partners, according to the Locum Tenens 2010 Anesthesiology Salary Survey Report.

1.    More open communication
2.    Better case scheduling
3.    Improved efficiency in billing and reimbursements
4.    Less paperwork and more time for patient care
5.    More autonomy
6.    Transparency and a return to “true partnerships”

Owners/partners:

1.    Better case scheduling
2.    More open communication
3.    Decreased paperwork
4.    More physician involvement in changes in the OR
5.    Less call frequency
6.    More free time
