“Patient satisfaction and quality are always at the top of the list,” said Dr. Alvin Head, chair of the department of anesthesiology and perioperative medicine at the Medical College of Georgia and the director of the perioperative service line at GHS Health System. “Health care reform is forcing us to be extremely efficient and cost effective. But that is okay if we can get you through the system faster and you have a better outcome and go home earlier. Then we all win.”
The anesthesiology department will be adding more spots to its fellowship program, including a critical care fellowship this summer and a pediatric fellowship within the next two years. Dr. Head said he hopes to “grow some of our own” who will stay at MCG and GHS Health System to support the growing care services provided.
