Here’s what you should know:
1. Beth Duche, RN, told police Dr. Ryan was turning off vital sign machines in patient bays. After she asked him to stop, he allegedly grabbed her by the throat and began squeezing with force. Another nurse told CBS4 she witnessed the alleged assault and described it as violent.
2. Sky Ridge Medical Center spokesperson Linda Watson told CBS4 Dr. Ryan was escorted off the property and his hospital privileges were immediately suspended.
3. Dr. Ryan retired following the alleged Oct. 8 incident. He had worked at the hospital under contract with an outside anesthesiology group since 2002.
4. Dr. Ryan told police, “I just didn’t mean to hurt her.” He told CBS4 he was turning off the machines due to “alarm fatigue” and retired because he “was ready.”
5. Sky Ridge had no prior reports of incidents involving Dr. Ryan, the hospital spokesperson said. He had no previous criminal record or discipline against his medical license.
6. Dr. Ryan is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 16.
