Dr. Schulten received his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington. He served as an anesthesiologist and assistant professor of anesthesia at the Yale New Haven (Conn.) Hospital Saint Raphael Campus.
Dr. Schulten was an endurance athlete who ran 100s of marathons, finished the Western States 100-mile ultramarathon, and competed in the Hawaii Ironman World Championship triathlon twice.
