Anesthesiologist cleared in malpractice trial for viral dancing video filmed during surgery

Anesthesiologist Roland Pinkney, MD, was cleared in a malpractice trial where he "danced, gestured and appeared to sing along to music" in a video filmed during a 2017 surgery, according to a July 31 report from Courtroom View Network.

He accompanied Windell Boutte, MD, the procedure's surgeon, in a video that went viral and received over a million views. The patient was under anesthesia when the video was recorded and claimed it was filmed without her consent and left her emotionally scarred. Dr. Pinkney alleged the patient signed a form consenting to videos during the procedure.

A state court jury ruled that Dr. Pinkney bore no responsibility for the patient's emotional trauma.
