American Society of Echocardiography awards Dr. Robert Savage lifetime achievement award — 4 insights

The American Society of Echocardiography awarded Florence, S.C.-based McLeod Heart and Vascular Institute anesthesiologist Robert Savage, MD, its 2017 Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Echocardiography Award, SC Now reports.

1. The society bestowed this honor on Dr. Savage at its 29th annual Scientific Sessions in Baltimore, from June 2 through June 6.

2. Dr. Savage is highly active in the field of perioperative echocardiography. His cardiology and anesthesiology training allows him to take a dual approach to echocardiography.

3. Dr. Savage is considered to have pioneered echocardiography's role in emergency extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and ventricular assist insertion.

4. He previously directed emergency response teams at the Cleveland Clinic. He also served as a vice chairman of the department of cardiothoracic anesthesiology at the Cleveland Clinic.
