American Health Council appoints anesthesiologist Dr. Michael Mahla to board of physicians: 4 insights

The American Health Council appointed Michael Mahla, MD, to its board of physicians.

Here are four things to know:

1. Dr. Mahla is a board-certified anesthesiologist, professor and executive vice chair of Philadelphia-based Thomas Jefferson University Sidney Kimmel Medical College's anesthesiology department.

2. Dr. Mahla received his medical degree from Sidney Kimmel Medical College, previously called Jefferson Medical College. He joined the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army and completed his residency in anesthesiology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.

3. He has published 100-plus scientific articles and received the Teacher of the Year Award in Anesthesiology and Critical Care from the Society of Neuroscience in 2012. Dr. Mahla is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Society of Neurological Monitoring, the Society for Neurosurgical Anesthesia and Critical Care and serves as an associate examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology.

4. He is also a classically trained pianist and tenor singer, and serves as associate conductor and tenor in the Thomas Jefferson University Choir.
