AMA Calls Study of CRNAs as Sole Provider of Anesthesia Services “Flawed”

Comments attributed to the American Medical Association on a Health Affairs blog report about a new study, published in the August issue of Health Affairs and funded by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, claiming there is no increased patient risk when nurse anesthetists provide anesthesia services without physician supervision, describe study’s conclusions as “flawed.”

The AMA acknowledges the value of nurse anesthetists in its comments but differentiates between the education and training of CRNAs and physicians and how this can impact patient care.
