The Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges and the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs approved Orlando, Fla.-based Adventist University of Health Sciences' doctor of nurse anesthesia practice program.
Here's what you should know:
1. The organizations approved the program Oct. 5.
2. The nurse anesthesia department currently offers a master's degree program. That program will be phased out and replaced with the DNAP curriculum.
3. The university will begin enrolling students into the new curriculum in May 2018.
4. The Council on Accreditation revised its standards and now requires students graduate with doctoral degrees through accredited entry-level programs.
Nurse Anesthesia Department Chair Alescia DeVasher Bethea, PhD, CRNA, said in a release, "The Nurse Anesthesia Department faculty are proud of the quality of the graduates from the current master's degree program, and are excited to launch into the next phase of nurse anesthesia education at the doctoral level."
