The American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology launched Anesthesia Answers on Aug. 22, 2026, a patient education platform built by certified registered nurse anesthetists to help patients understand anesthesia care.
The website, AnesthesiaAnswers.org, gives patients and families direct answers to common anesthesia questions and outlines what to expect before, during and after surgery, childbirth or a procedure, according to an Aug. 22 news release. AANA built the resource on evidence-based standards and nationally recognized safety protocols, presenting the information without medical jargon.
Tracy Young, MSNA, MBA, CRNA, AANA’s incoming president, said advancing patient safety has always been central to the organization’s mission. “Anesthesia Answers is how we extend that commitment beyond the procedure room and make sure every patient, regardless of where they live or who they are, has access to the information they deserve,” Ms. Young said.
Suzanne Wright, PhD, CRNA, FAANA, chair of AANA’s Patient Safety Advisory Panel, said patients become better partners in their care when they have clear, trustworthy information ahead of a surgery or procedure. “Anesthesia Answers was developed to present evidence-based anesthesia information in language that is understandable to the public, helping patients and families feel more informed before they meet their CRNA,” Dr. Wright said.
AANA represents more than 69,000 CRNAs and nurse anesthesiologists nationwide, who administer more than 58 million anesthetics annually in the U.S.
