5 quick facts on the American Health Council's newest board member Dr. Valerie McRae

Valerie McRae, MD, joined the American Health Council's board of physicians, Directors Talk reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. Dr. McRae is an associate professor at New Brunswick, N.J.-based Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, where she has served as pediatric anesthesia division chief for more than six years.

2. Her memberships include the American Society of Anesthesiologists, New Jersey Society of Anesthesiologists and Society for Pediatric Anesthesia.

3. In 2013, the Hugs for Brady Foundation awarded Dr. McRae the Hugs For Brady Humanitarian Award.

4. Dr. McRae attended Pennsylvania State University's College of Medicine in Hershey. She completed an internship at Summit, N.J.-based Overlook Hospital and an anesthesiology residency at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. She underwent fellowship training in pediatric anesthesiology at Philadelphia-based St. Christopher's Hospital for Children.

5. She served as an attending pediatric anesthesiologist at New Jersey Medical School before transferring to Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
