5 factors driving growth in acute pain administration

The use of postoperative pain blocks has increased over the past five years, according to Anesthesia Business Consultants' review of data from 17 clients.

ABC President and CEO Tony Mira said five factors are driving the growth:

1. Widespread availability of ultrasound guidance
2. Easier patient recovery
3. Residents' understanding of acute pain administration
4. Increasing evidence supporting nerve block use during the recovery period
5. Payer support for nerve blocks and ultrasound guidance
