4 points on pressing issues for anesthesia practices

Anesthesia practices face pressing issues such as maintaining market strength and navigating increasing healthcare consolidation, according to Anesthesia Business Consultants President and CEO Tony Mira.

Here are four insights explored in the new issue of the Communiqué:

1. Small, nimble private practices attuned to their customers' needs will be poised to compete in a volatile healthcare market, according to ABC Vice President Jody Locke.

2. Mr. Locke argues in favor of smaller entities in an article called "What Is the Future of Private Anesthesia Practice?" The article is published ABC's quarterly newsletter, Communiqué.

"To the extent that larger entities can provide a better product cheaper, the consolidation will continue. The real question, though, is when is big too big? Is there a tipping point?" he said.

3. Anesthesia group leaders must pay attention to various strategic and business concerns, such as service levels or scale, to achieve and maintain market strength, according to Mark F. Weiss, JD, of the Mark F. Weiss Law Firm.

4. Mr. Weiss penned a comprehensive list of thought-provoking questions to consider in "A Self-Diagnostic for High-Performing Anesthesia Group Leaders."
