Medscape surveyed 19,328 practicing physicians across 30-plus specialties.
Four insights on anesthesiologists:
1. Anesthesiologists had the ninth-highest annual compensation of all specialties, earning $392,000 a year on average.
2. Although their annual compensation is above the $341,000 overall average for specialists, just 58 percent of anesthesiologists said they feel fairly compensated.
3. Of the 75 percent of anesthesiologists who would choose to go into medicine again, 85 percent would choose the same specialty.
4. Just under one-fourth of anesthesiologists are female.
