Most anesthesiologists aren't happy when they're at work, according to Medscape's "Anesthesiologist Lifestyle, Happiness & Burnout Report 2020."

Medscape surveyed 15,181 physicians across 29-plus specialties.

Three insights:

1. Just 28 percent of anesthesiologists said they're happy at work, putting them at No. 15 in terms of specialist happiness.

2. Half of anesthesiologists reported being happy outside of work.

3. Burnout affected 27 percent of anesthesiologists surveyed. They cited too many working hours, lack of respect and bureaucratic tasks as the top three contributors to burnout.
