2 anesthesiologists at Duke ASC gain 'most valuable' title

Two physicians in Duke Anesthesiology's Ambulatory Anesthesia Division were recognized at an event celebrating a systemwide perioperative initiative.

Four highlights:

1. Anesthesiologists Karen Nielsen, MD, and Steve Melton, MD, were named recipients of the Perioperative Culture Most Valuable Person award at the Durham, N.C.-based Duke Ambulatory Surgery Center on May 15.

2. The awards were presented by members of the ASC's management team, including Natalie Clarke, CRNA, Paula Angevine, RN, and Renee Morell, RN.

3. The event was held in celebration of the 1 Duke Periop initiative, which brought the perioperative teams at Duke Raleigh (N.C.) Hospital, Durham-based Duke Regional Hospital and Durham-based Duke University Hospital under one umbrella.

4. The initiative was launched in 2017 to support perioperative decision-making and improve resource utilization across the Durham-based Duke University Health System.
