Washington state offers the highest mean annual wage for anesthesiologists in the U.S., according to May 2025 data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The BLS tracks occupational wages across states, though data for some states is suppressed when wages exceed the agency’s publication threshold of $115 per hour ($239,200 annually) or when sample sizes are too small. At least 12 states, including Alaska, Arizona, Missouri, Nevada, North Carolina and Oregon, reported wages at or above that ceiling, meaning actual pay in those markets may rival or exceed the figures below.
Here are the 10 highest-paying states for anesthesiologists by mean annual wage, per May 2025 BLS data:
- Washington: $508,520 mean annual wage ($244.48/hour)
- Minnesota: $449,130 ($215.93/hour)
- New Hampshire: $433,850 ($208.58/hour)
- Pennsylvania: $425,950 ($204.78/hour)
- Florida: $422,780 ($203.26/hour)
- Ohio: $422,500 ($203.13/hour)
- Connecticut: $416,580 ($200.28/hour)
- Wisconsin: $411,910 ($198.04/hour)
- Indiana: $389,030 ($187.04/hour)
- Virginia: $388,620 ($186.84/hour)
