The states with the largest projected physician shortage in 2026

Florida is projected to face the nation’s largest physician shortage in 2026, according to a Dec. 26 report from Medicus Healthcare Solutions.

As of Dec. 23, the following states are expected to have the largest gaps between physician supply and demand in 2026, measured in full-time equivalents:

1. Florida: -18,370 FTEs

2. Texas: -12,720 FTEs

3. Georgia: -8,360 FTEs

4. Arizona: -6,980 FTEs

5. Indiana: -6,380 FTEs

6. Tennessee: -6,260 FTEs
