The new IMV market survey on CT scans also found:
• Providers reported lower Medicare and private payor reimbursements.
• Contrast media is being used less often, accounting for 55 percent of CT procedures in 2010 compared with 67 percent in 2007.
• Scanners with 64 slices or more accounted for 46 percent of installed CTs in 2010, and in the next two years, at least 25 percent of would-be CT purchasers plan to buy this type of unit.
• The average replacement cycle for CT scanners is estimated at 8.3 years.
• Manufacturers service 71 percent of their installed CT units, while independent servicers account for 14 percent of units and in-house servicing accounts for 10 percent.
