New Material Will Create Smaller, Less Invasive Devices

Bayer MaterialScience is introducing a new grade of medical polycarbonate that allows for smaller, less invasive medical devices, according to a report by News Medical.

The material, Makrolon, makes device walls as thin as 0.014 inches and allows long flow lengths of 150 millimeters. In addition to reducing invasiveness, Makrolon lowers the amount of material used and enhances processing efficiency.

 

Makrolon could be used in trocars, needle safety guards and other medical devices requiring thin walls and complex components.
