A Paramus, N.J., clinic and its operator were ordered to halt all operations after a judge issued a temporary injunction against a man accused of posing as a physician, Morristown Minute reported Sept. 29.
What happened?
- Imran Rasid, operator of the Stress Reduction Clinic, allegedly misrepresented himself as “Dr. Imran Rasid, MD, PhD, Board Certified Therapist” despite never holding a New Jersey license to practice medicine, psychology, counseling, therapy or addiction treatment.
- According to the state, Mr. Rasid’s promotional materials misstated his qualifications, violating professional licensing laws and the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act. Complaints from licensed professionals and patients prompted a Consumer Affairs investigation.
- One patient reported abrupt termination of therapy, while another alleged sexually inappropriate conduct, including personal advances and texts.
- In May 2024, an undercover investigator met Mr. Rasid at the clinic. He allegedly posed as a physician and psychologist, claimed hospital employment, diagnosed a panic disorder and offered counseling, all without a license.
