A record number of East Lansing-based Michigan State University College of Human Medicine students presented at the Michigan Society of Anesthesiologists Annual Meeting in Grand Rapids — a sign of growing interest in the specialty amid ongoing workforce concerns.

Students, supported by faculty and in collaboration with Detroit-based Henry Ford Health anesthesiology physicians, shared case reports on complex scenarios including massive pulmonary embolism management and anesthesia challenges in achondroplasia, according to a Sept. 26 system news release.

The experience offered mentorship, networking with program directors and exposure to national advocacy issues, reinforcing the role of academic-medical partnerships in developing Michigan’s future anesthesiology workforce, according to the release.
