Here are six updates to know on UnitedHealth Group’s Optum, the parent company of ASC chain SCA Health, as reported by Becker’s since July 29:
- A settlement was finalized in a decadelong lawsuit that claimed Aetna and Optum used misleading billing practices to conceal administrative fees for chiropractic and physical therapy services as medical charges.
- Optum subsidiary SCA Health, one of the largest ASC chains in the country, acquired one of the country’s largest gastroenterology physician groups in early 2025 from a private equity owner.
- Optum acquired a 200-provider medical group in Kingsport, Tenn.
- UnitedHealth Group and Amedisys reached a proposed final settlement with the U.S. Justice Department and attorneys general from Maryland, Illinois, New Jersey and New York to resolve an antitrust lawsuit that had stalled their $3.3 billion merger.
- Optum reported $67.2 billion in total revenue for the second quarter of 2025, up from $62.9 billion year over year.
- Physician departures have continued at Eugene-based Oregon Medical Group, a practice acquired by Optum in 2020.
