New Mexico is the state where certified anesthesiologist assistants are paid the most in 2025, according to a salary analysis by BagMask, a specialized anesthesia job board.
The analysis, conducted in June, reviewed full-time job postings that listed both minimum and maximum salary ranges. Per diem and temporary postings were excluded to reflect base annual compensation levels.
CAA demand is climbing nationwide as hospitals and ASCs grapple with mounting anesthesia staffing shortages. Nearly 30% of anesthesiologists are expected to leave the workforce by 2033, prompting many organizations to increase reliance on certified anesthesiologist assistants and certified registered nurse anesthetists.
To retain provider talent, healthcare systems are offering higher salaries, relocation incentives and retention bonuses.
While most CAA salaries fall between $180,000 and $250,000 annually, average compensation in the nation’s highest-paying states now exceeds $280,000, BagMask found.
