Charlotte, N.C.-based Novant Health has broken ground on the health system’s first medical campus in Upstate South Carolina.

The system will build an ASC and medical office building in Greenville, S.C., according to an Aug. 12 news release from Novant Health.

Michael Kissenberth, MD, an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist, is the first physician in the Greenville region to join Novant Health.

The health system has also received approval for a 20-bed, outpatient-focused hospital, which will be built on the campus in the future, the release said.

The new facility follows up on the company’s recent initiative to more than double the number of ASCs in its network in the next three to five years.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
